Chippy Nonstop, a DJ, rapper and singer from California, hosted an all-female DJ workshop at Toronto's Studio Bar as a means of encouraging women to get more involved in an industry that they're often discriminated against in.
For the event, any female-identifying persons with an interest in learning how DJ software works were welcomed -- with a panel of talented musicians made available to teach them the ropes. This included the likes of DJs Internet Daughter, CL, Peach, Kare and Bambii in addition to Chippy Nonstop -- all who carry a mutual goal of diversifying the electronic music scene.
The event's creator explained the need for an all-female DJ workshop by saying "I want young women to be able to learn in a safe environment, because a club isn’t a safe environment." Given the event's success and support, Chippy Nonstop plans to host more of the DJ workshops within the city.
