Renovated Spanish Exhibition Spaces

Casa Batlló Contemporary by Mesura is a New Gallery Space

Casa Batlló Contemporary is a new gallery space opened on the second floor of Casa Batlló, the UNESCO World Heritage building in Barcelona originally designed by Antoni Gaudí. The gallery occupies around 230 square metres of previously closed rooms that were once residential apartments and later used for conservation and maintenance. The space has been transformed by Barcelona-based architecture studio Mesura as part of a renewed cultural programme within the historic house.

Mesura’s intervention preserves original elements such as woodwork and stained glass while introducing contemporary architectural features, including a curved metal ceiling screen printed with concentric ripples. This ceiling was produced using robotic technology and provides a contrasting surface above the gallery floor. The renovation also restored historic finishes and reinterpreted spatial connections to support exhibition use. The inaugural exhibition, titled Beyond the Façade, is presented by United Visual Artists, the London-based studio founded by Matt Clark.
