Minimalist Floating Pen Designs

Pulse Pen is an Award-Winning Pen Designed to Appear Suspended

The Pulse pen, designed by Leila Ensaniat, is a writing instrument that appears to float on the desk and has received the Golden A’ Design Award in the 3D Printed Forms and Products category. Ensaniat describes it as a “floating pen” inspired by the effortless drift of clouds, and its sculptural silhouette reflects this concept while still functioning as a writing tool. The object was created for her brand N I L A, which focuses on integrating purposeful design into everyday objects.

Pulse combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary form-making. The body features biomorphic surface patterns that were produced through lost wax casting in metals such as aluminum, silver, bronze, and gold, a technique more commonly found in jewelry and fine art than in conventional pen design. The pen’s shape is calibrated to feel comfortable in the hand, with weight and balance considered to support everyday writing.
