Some of the people and brands featured here rely on volunteers to function and others make it their mission to encourage their own employees to lend their time to a cause that is creating positive social change around the globe.
Interestingly, a few of the innovations featured here connect community, individuals, non-profits and businesses -- many of them through an Internet platform that allows for an easy and simple application. For instance, Do Good Get Rewards helps to give perks to volunteers in an effort to increase the amount of time people spend volunteering. Spice Innovations, which is a 2012 Deloitte Social Innovation Pioneer, has created a time credit program. Initiatives like these will undoubtedly create a further fusion between what is typically thought of as separate: volunteerism and paid work.
