The Olympics are one of the best real-world examples of single-minded determination, overcoming adversity and personal triumph, and with all those strong emotional ties, it's no wonder that companies use the event in Olympic brand campaigns and product releases as the games approach. The upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio will feature intense competition and could very well include some scandal, drawing the interest of millions of people worldwide and giving brands even more of an incentive to jump into the ring.

For some brands, using the Olympics as a marketing tool is common sense. It's almost mandatory for sports and apparel companies to use the Olympics, especially considering that many of the Olympic athletes are sponsored by them. For other companies, though, the connection is slightly less direct, as with Olympic-inspired yogurt flavors or Olympic video game giveaways.

In any case, a passionate event like the Rio Games offers an array of companies the opportunity to release impressive Olympic brand campaigns.
