The gamification of health is a phenomenon that isn't too surprising given the manner in which every area of our lives seem to be getting gamified these days. Adding a gaming element to healthy activities serves as a staunch motivator, while enabling people to have fun while pursuing healthy activities and habits. Healthy habits are often associated with an absence of fun, and gamification helps alter that perception.
Every element of a healthy lifestyle -- be it diet, sleep, exercise, safe sex and mental well-being -- can be gamified. There are different ways in which this can be achieved. Apps, computer-based and Internet-based health activities have been common for a while, but there are also lots of physical gadgets that partake in the gamification of health, helping people infuse fun and healthy competition into their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.
