The hip fashion trends of 2013, as they do every other year, directly reflected the patterns in pop culture and design. Generally, this year marked the rise of the pop culture nerd. Identified by his or her remarkable knowledge in TV shows, movies, books and memes of the past few years, this archetype's typical wardrobe of reference-wear went mainstream in 2013, with an onslaught of t-shirts bearing everything from Mean Girls quotes to Bart Simpson's face observed.
