Freedom of the press is essential to a functional demoncracy, and the US Press Freedom Tracker is a new tool to help people follow where and when that freedom is being curtailed. The informative website, which is funded by the Committee to Protect Journalists, collects reporting from 20 different press freedom groups, serving as a central resource for stories and data on abuse perpetrated against journalists.

At the top of the US Press Freedom Tracker, there are stats on various incidents against journalists throughout the year to date. These stats include the number of arrests of journalists, equipment search and seizures, physical attacks on journalists, and border stops on journalists. Further, the site collects articles related to journalistic freedom, and those articles can be filtered according to several different types of incidents.
