Multifunctional Urban Parks

Mexico City Will Transform Its Busiest Road Into an Urban Park

Architects have been working on transforming Mexico City's Avenida Chapultepec, one of its busiest roads, into a massive urban park.

The planned urban park will still allow for traffic to pass, but at a limited rate. Also, the park is planned to run many kilometers long and will be made to encourage the use of pedestrian walkways, bike lanes and public transport hubs.

Designers also hope to raise the landscape, which will house numerous shops, restaurants and cafes that will overlook the new park and the city. The plan is for the park to be a central meeting place for city dwellers where the local culture's diversity can be celebrated. The street also has a historical significance and organizers hope that this plan returns the land back to the people.
