Snapchat's filters have been part of the reason why the social media app has been catapulted up as one of the leading platforms in the field, and the company's latest filter innovation comes in partnership with the release of 'Underworld: Blood Wars.' Though specific details about the content of the filter aren't yet known, Snapchat's 'Underworld: Blood Wars' filter will be the first ever to use 3D augmented reality.

With normal Snapchat filters, the camera simply adds a two-dimensional overlay onto the image that one's front-facing smartphone camera captures. However, the new 3D filter based on the popular fantasy horror franchise will take advantage of both the front- and rear-facing cameras on users smartphones to create an immersive, augmented reality space. On top of this immersion, the filter will also turn users' faces into vampires, just like in the 'Underworld' series.
