Frequency-Dependent Speakers

The 'Tone and Tune' Emits Sound on Various Materials

— November 5, 2018 — Art & Design
Plenty of speakers give users the ability to customize and tailor settings of a specific sound, but the Tone and Tune offer in-depth control by allowing listeners to tune their music to the vibration frequency of various materials. Instead of passing sound through the air like traditional speakers, the Tone and Tune emits sound by directly vibrating an object in contact with the diaphragm of the speaker.

The Tone and Tune is constructed entirely of concrete and while this may not be to everyone's aesthetic taste, it ensures distortion and unnatural tones are not produced by the device. The sound generated from the speaker will depend on what material it is placed on as it reacts to vibration frequency. This means thickness, density and pattern of the material will all have an effect on the sound the speaker produces.
Trend Themes
1. Material-specific Sound - The ability to customize sound to the vibration frequency of different materials presents an opportunity to disrupt the audio industry by marketing to niche audiences who prioritize sound quality for specific materials.
2. Concrete Speaker Construction - The use of concrete as the primary construction material presents an innovative opportunity to disrupt the speaker manufacturing industry while offering customers a unique product.
3. Direct Vibrating Sound - Directly vibrating an object in contact with the diaphragm instead of passing sound through the air means this technology could potentially disrupt the traditional audio speaker market and provide new opportunities for product development using this technology.
Industry Implications
1. Audio - The audio industry could harness this technology to produce niche-specific speakers for use on particular materials such as wood, metal, glass, or plastic.
2. Construction - The construction industry could use the Tone and Tune technology to create speakers that are integrated into building materials like concrete, plaster, or drywall, or for customized sound in acoustic design.
3. Home Decor - The unique concrete construction of the Tone and Tune speaker offers an innovative opportunity for the home décor industry to produce speaker designs that double as decorative conversation pieces.
