'The Source' is a short VR video that examines the issue of clean water access in Ethiopia. While VR video has largely been used for entertainment purposes, now the technology is being used as an educational tool.
Timed to coincide with World Water Day, 'The Source' is a short VR video directed by by Vrse’s Imraan Ismail. The film explores the issue of clean water access by following a young Ethiopian girl on her journey to fetch water each day. The film not only demonstrates how difficult it is for children to receive a proper education when they are tasked with fetching water, but it also highlights the fact that communities as a whole struggle without access to clean water. The added element of VR technology helps to convey the story in a more immersive way, thereby giving consumers a better understanding of the issue.
The Source ultimately demonstrates how VR can be used as a powerful storytelling medium when it comes to pressing global issues such as unequal access to clean water.
