Meta Locks Down Muse and Smart Glasses with Confidential AI

Meta is adding tighter privacy controls to the AI running inside Muse and its smart glasses, so more personal tasks can be handled without broadly exposing user data. The company is building a confidential system for Muse and private processing for select glasses features, both aimed at keeping sensitive information away from Meta.

For Muse, the new 'Muse Confidential VM' adds encryption to the assistant's existing cloud-based setup, 'Muse Secure VM.' On the glasses, Meta is developing a protected server environment for features such as private translations, along with safeguards like an indicator light and a recording lockout if the light is tampered with.

For shoppers, this means AI wearables can feel less like a trade-off of personal data and more like a practical helper. As assistants handle emails, travel, shopping, and live translation, privacy becomes part of the buying decision rather than an afterthought.
