Camera-Free Voice-First Smart Glasses

Meta's Luna Glasses Offer Camera-Free AI Access

Meta is reportedly developing Luna, a camera-free pair of smart glasses that connects wearers to its AI chatbot and Muse consumer agent, featuring six built-in microphones. According to The Information, the model omits integrated cameras and instead includes a side-mounted button that activates the AI system. It is positioned as a voice-first wearable designed for conversational access to AI.

Luna could be unveiled as soon as Meta Connect in Menlo Park, California. The six microphones support voice input, while the dedicated button initiates AI interactions. Meta’s Reality Labs division is responsible for developing the company’s smart glasses line.

For consumers, the camera-free design could provide a more approachable way to use wearable AI by trading visual capture for hands-free voice access. The concept reflects a broader shift toward specialized AI wearables with fewer privacy-sensitive components. For Meta, Luna could help address adoption barriers and broaden its smart glasses portfolio as Reality Labs continues to report substantial losses.
