Refreshing Low-Alcohol Spirits

The 4.4% ABV Spirit 'Willow' Has Notes of Apple, Citrus & Tomato

— February 5, 2019 — Lifestyle
Drinks entrepreneur William Borrell of London's Ladies & Gentlemen bar created 'Willow,' an all-new low-alcohol spirit that comes in at just 4.4% ABV. According to Borrell, “There’s obviously a boom in no/low alcohol spirits... Willow’s designed for those wanting all the cues of alcohol with a depth of taste.”

Willow is a refreshing choice that is said to be somewhere between a gin and tonic, an Aperol Spritz and a Negroni. The low-alcohol spirit certainly delivers in terms of taste by building on the flavors of an apple spirit with pineapple, kaffir lime, cracked black pepper, agave and cherry tomatoes. The finished spirit is clear and viscous, lending itself well to being served neat over ice or with a tonic.
Trend Themes
1. Low-alcohol Spirits - The trend toward low-alcohol spirits represents a new market opportunity, as consumers are looking for flavorful, refreshing options without the typical alcohol content.
2. No/low Alcohol Spirits - The no/low-alcohol spirits market is booming, with an increasing number of consumers seeking these products in favor of traditional alcoholic beverages.
3. Flavorful Low-alcohol Beverages - There is a growing market for flavorful low-alcohol spirits that mimic the taste and experience of traditional alcoholic beverages, providing a disruptive innovation opportunity for brands to meet this demand.
Industry Implications
1. Beverage Industry - The beverage industry can capitalize on the trend toward low-alcohol spirits, producing and marketing new products for consumers looking for flavorful, refreshing options with less alcohol content.
2. Hospitality Industry - The hospitality industry can embrace the trend toward no/low-alcohol spirits and cater to consumers looking for non-alcoholic options, potentially increasing revenue by capturing this new market.
3. Alcohol Industry - The alcohol industry can focus on producing and marketing flavorful low-alcohol spirits as a way to appeal to consumers who want the taste and experience of alcohol but without the high alcohol content, disrupting the traditional alcohol market.
