Terunobu Fujimori is the brainpower behind the Goan Teahouse. Known for his quirky teahouse designs and fondness for unusual structures, the Japanese architect and architectural historian showcased his newest teahouse in front of the new Nation Stadium of Tokyo. The structure remained there until September 5th, 2021, to celebrate the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The grass-covered structure features a lofty vista point. Made from timber treated with yakisugi, the loft hosts the Goan Teahouse. To reach the top, visitors can crawl through a circular hole through one of the structure's grassy facades. On the inside, visitors are greeted with an unstained wooden first floor. A small wooden staircase ladder connects the bottom floor with the upper tea room.
