Tokyo’s 'Nadeshiko Sushi' is Japan's first sushi restaurant to be staffed solely by female chefs. In Japan, stereotypes and long-standing myths make it difficult for women to become sushi chefs. This restaurant is doing away with the outdated tradition by giving women an opportunity to show off their sushi-making skills.

Nadeshiko Sushi is a high-end sushi bar located in Tokyo’s Akihabara district. Unlike other restaurants, Nadeshiko Sushi is staffed solely by female chefs. While there are a handful of female sushi chefs in Japan, this restaurant is the only place where no men are found behind the kitchen counter. By removing men from the kitchen entirely, the restaurant hopes to break some of the barriers that have long held women back from becoming sushi chefs.
