Douyu TV is a Chinese video game streaming platform created by the startup Guangzhou Douyu Internet Technology that was recently valued at US$100 million. Similar in its premise to the American game streaming platform Twitch, Douyu TV boasts investors that include Tencent, Sequoia Capital and Nanshan Capital.
Launched in 2013, the video game streaming app originally operated under a different name before switching to Douyu TV. Douyu TV is said to have 100 million registered users, 15 million of whom are active on a daily basis. While Douyu TV is facing some homegrown competition as Chinese-designed streaming platforms continue to emerge, the platform continues to steadily gain users and has been increasingly successful in all of its funding rounds thus far.
