Commune Boasts a Creamy Color Palette for a Santa Monica Bakery

When commissioned to envision the interior of this gluten-free bakery in Santa Monica, Los Angeles-based studio Commune embraced a creamy color palette and a rich set of materials, including combinations that boasted the use of limestone, wood, terracotta, and plaster. The nuances in interior design were no coincidence either as the studio wanted to connect the establishment to its founder's (Chloé Charlier) Provençal heritage.

The bakery is playfully dubbed 'BreadBlok' and it serves as a convenient place where those with dietary restrictions pertaining to gluten can indulge in a stress-free atmosphere. In addition to alluring consumers with a welcoming creamy color palette and tasty gluten-free products, BreadBlok also doubles as a coffee shop. The business also boasts some local, artistic touches--from Adam Pogue's patchwork tablecloths to Dax Savage's handwoven rope baskets.
