The news can be a depressing source of internet content, but 'Buoy Up' is a new Google Chrome browser extension that hopes to raise reader out of the morass by giving them the opportunity to make a difference in the outcomes of the stories. The extension recognizes the charities and NGOs in the headlines of articles and gives users a quick way to donate the amount of their choice to the aid organization involved in the given story.
To use Buoy Up, users simply download the browser extension and enter their payment information. Then, while reading through news articles as normal, the extension will highlight the names of aid organizations listed in the headlines. To donate, users click on the highlighted name and then click the buoy symbol to donate 50 cents at a time — no donation pages or fumbling through multiple payment options necessary.
