Boca burgers had their start being served in a restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida as "Sun Burgers" in the 1970s, but as of this year's Natural Foods Products West, the vegetarian patties have been rebranded for a modern audience that's intrigued by plant-based eating.

The reformulated, rebranded Boca burgers target flexitarians, as many are looking to explore the world of plant-based alternatives that's causing such disruption across the world of food and beverages. As Sergio Eleuterio, general manager of Springboard Brands at the Kraft Heinz Co. noted at the trade show: "People who buy Boca also buy meat."

As the refreshed "All-American Veggie Burger" products feature revised formulas, the texture of soy was improved upon to create a more satisfying flavor experience.
