39 Open Source and Commons Finds

Changing the World Through Equal Access and Shared Technology

— August 2, 2010 — Pop Culture
Cutting-edge design, engineering and medical information are all part of the open source and 'commons' movements.

Rather than allowing information, creation and technology to be controlled by a single entity, open source and commons lets anyone have access so that the power of collaborative invention can build upon shared knowledge for the benefit of many rather than just a few.

Implications - The commons or crowdsourcing movement is the most honest form of consumer-driven initiative a company can make. Companies that leave the fate of their products in the hands of their audience have come to terms with the fact that the power is quite literally in the people. Ultimately, there is no better way to please a certain target audience than letting them create the product themselves.
