Hewlett Packard has donated three of its patents to a pool of eco-friendly intellectual property known as the Eco-Patent Commons. The World Business Council on Sustainable Development manages the Commons and encourages organizations to open-source eco innovations for the greater good.

Sharing information to promote a more environmentally-conscious population is just one of the ways that open access to intellectual property is improving the world. Universities, individuals and companies everywhere are participating in a growing open-source movement including open-source eco innovations.
