With many consumers looking to limit their screen time to decrease stress and feel more present in their daily lives, the conceptual 'Companion' smartphone from designer Joseph Burrell provides a solution. Though still a smartphone, Companion is intentionally simple, in that it will not buzz with app notifications throughout the day, yet still allows users to snap photos and communicate via phone calls. With its ultra-compact design, the micro-sized phone is small enough to be used as a keychain.
Though many consumers rely on delivery apps to take a break from home cooking and support local restaurants, the significant cuts many companies take from the small businesses who use them has led many to seek out alternatives that leave more money in the pockets of struggling restaurants, as well as the delivery drivers who make it all possible. This has led to the launch of a new app called Getit Local, which provides more transparency regarding how fees are disrupted. With GetItLocal, delivery staff keep 100 percent of their tips, users won't see any surprise fees at checkout, and restaurant partners don't have to worry about excessive backend fees.
