18 Teacher-Affiliated Social Enterprises

From Data-Driven Classroom Management to Culinary Schools:

This top list of teacher-affiliated social enterprises includes a range of organizations on the spectrum of non-profit and for-profit. For instance, on the one end, there's Kickboard, which was founded by Jennifer Medbery who was named one of America's Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs of 2011 by Bloomberg Business Week. Kickboard is a for-profit social business that attempts to provide educational software, technology and data for teachers and administrators.

Other examples, however, are less product-focused. For instance, the Cooking Rooms, lovated in York, North Yorkshire, offers teaching lessons in cooking as a way to foster social engagement. The profits from its private parties and renting out its kitchen go to funding their community classes as well as the Change Foundation.
