Community Culinary Schools

The Cooking Rooms is a Social Enterprise and a Social Space

Learning to cook in a healthy manner and knowing the value of sitting down to a communal meal is a learned skill, and something that The Cooking Rooms hopes to spread. As an offshoot of the non-profit organization The Change Foundation, The Cooking Rooms is a social enterprise that fosters social engagement and physical and mental wellbeing.

Based in York, North Yorkshire, The Cooking Rooms reinvests its profits back into the community cookery itself. Those that attend the workshops, events and classes put on by the school are both adults and children that would not otherwise have the opportunity to have access to the state-of-the-art kitchen equipment and teaching that The Cooking Rooms has to offer. What is more, the teachers are experienced chefs who have backgrounds in anything and everything from mixology to sushi and desserts.

Aside from community classes, the school rents out its high-tech kitchen, offers team-building events and private parties, with all of the profits going to The Change Foundation.

The Cooking Rooms center on a simple idea, but the mantra itself is undeniable: “Learn, Cook, Share.” We could all use a little more time to focus on nutrition, community and charity -- and have a mouthwatering meal while we’re at it.
