13 Social Businesses in Competitions

From Edible Insect Kits to Student-Funded Enterprise Awards:

From edible insect kits to student-funded enterprise awards, these social businesses in competitions like to compare themselves to others as a way to get ahead and push them and their teams to the next level of social innovation. The Dell Social Innovation Challenge, for instance, is a competition for students that was founded in 2007 and then, a year later, was sponsored by the technology company Dell.

But not all of the social businesses in competitions featured in this top list are structured as awards systems themselves but perhaps create their own competitions as a crowdsourcing scheme or started the idea through a competition. For instance, Locust Farm was founded through the James Dyson Award and now, funds communities into farming their own crickets for edible consumption.
