Perforated Marble Blocks

ZEROS Collection by Denys Sokolov Uses Drilled Marble to Shape Light

The ZEROS collection by Denys Sokolov comprises solid marble blocks perforated with a grid of circular openings that allow daylight to pass through and create shifting light and shadow patterns across adjacent surfaces. Each block is machined from marble and drilled through its thickness with regularly spaced cylindrical holes that define both the form and the resulting light effects. The blocks can be arranged in horizontal courses to form screens or partitions where controlled daylight transmission is required.

The diameter and spacing of the perforations are configured to balance light admission with visual screening, and the natural veining and colour variations of the marble remain visible across the stone surfaces. When positioned near a light source, the perforations cast patterned shadows that change with the angle and intensity of the light.

Perforated Marble Lighting
Perforated marble functions as a sculptural daylight regulator that produces shifting shadow patterns and ambient variability for interior environments.
Material-driven Daylighting
A focus on natural stone with engineered openings promotes passive light control strategies that balance privacy with filtered illumination.
Parametric Perforation Design
Algorithmically informed hole size and spacing enable optimized light transmission and patterning tailored to orientation, sun angle, and visual screening needs.

Who This Affects Most

Architecture and Interiors
Customizable perforated stone elements present opportunities for architects to integrate sculptural partitions and façade screens that modulate daylight and define spatial ambiance.
Lighting Design and Fixtures
Lighting professionals can leverage drilled stone as both a functional diffuser and an aesthetic fixture component that generates dynamic shadow play under variable illumination.
Stone Fabrication and CNC Machining
Advanced CNC drilling and machining services are positioned to expand into precision-perforation offerings that combine structural integrity with decorative light-transmitting geometries.
