Roof-Planed Cascading Homes

Worrell Yeung Designs a New Home by Candlewood Lake in Connecticut

Brooklyn design studio Worrell Yeung designs a new lake house made from timber materials and framed by cantilevered roof planes in Connecticut. It is located right by Candlewood Lake and features a cascaded sloped base with elevated and sleek structures.

Principal at the design studio Jejon Yeung notes that “Part of the goal of the project was to minimize the house's presence and perceived size from the street. We ended up layering planes and stacking volumes to break up the mass of the house as it cascades down the hill.” The house surrounds itself around a large oak tree and uses site-cast concrete to create the structural look. It cantilevers by the roof planes going out around multiple directions and creates solar shade to the glazing that lies below.
