The Cloud House Transforms a Hudson Valley Site into a Serene Eco Home

— July 30, 2025 — Art & Design
The Cloud House, designed by Solk Architecture, floats above a Hudson Valley hillside—notched among clouds yet anchored to the earth. Architect Leah Solk envisioned a minimalist volume with a pitched roof, clad in gray cement board and supported by exposed concrete. The living area extends toward panoramic valley views through floor-to-ceiling windows, making the house feel suspended within the rolling landscape. Inside, light oak, bare metal, and radiant-heated porcelain floors reinforce a calm and tactile palette while concealing clutter through generous built-in storage.

The home’s layout is intuitive and layered. Positioned at the property’s apex, entry unfolds from a forgiving granite-tiled ramp into a central bookshelf nook flanked by mirrored surfaces. Cathedral ceilings above the open-plan living space heighten spatial drama and draw light deep into the house. Natural ventilation and insulation reduce energy reliance, and finishes were finalized early to maintain proportions and avoid mid-build revisions. Cloud House reflects Solk’s belief that architecture and interiors should form one cohesive whole.
