Faceted Cedar Houses

The House on a Hill is a Residence Designed by Formacubic

The House on a Hill is a single-family residence designed by FormaCubic and located in the Hudson Valley region of New York. The house is composed of a series of angular volumes clad in vertically oriented cedar siding, creating a faceted exterior profile. These volumes correspond to interior program divisions and generate varied rooflines across the structure. Openings are positioned within the cedar surfaces to introduce daylight and frame views of the surrounding wooded landscape. The building is arranged to follow the site’s natural slope, with interior spaces distributed across connected forms rather than a single mass.

Interior finishes continue the use of wood through custom millwork and built-in elements designed by FormaCubic. Living areas are oriented toward exterior views, while private rooms are placed deeper within the plan. Structural and mechanical systems are integrated to support year-round occupancy in the regional climate. The house balances geometric expression with material continuity across exterior and interior spaces.
