Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

The Sky House by Klas Hyllén Architecture is a Retrofitted 1970s Bungalow

— February 3, 2026 — Art & Design
The Sky House is a retrofitted 1970s bungalow in south-west England redesigned by Klas Hyllén Architecture to better support family living and to take advantage of its elevated hillside setting. The original stepped form of the bungalow was retained, with the structure descending down the slope and opening toward expansive views across the surrounding landscape and sky. The retrofit introduces a glazed link volume at the center of the plan, dividing the home into separate living and bedroom zones while drawing daylight and long views deep into the interior.

The entrance is approached via stone steps lined with terraced planters that lead beneath a small canopy. Three bedrooms are positioned to the east of the entrance, while the kitchen and dining area occupies the glazed link space. This volume includes a large corner window with a built-in bench and a long skylight crossed by exposed timber roof beams. The main living area sits half a level above and connects to a more private zone containing the principal bedroom, guest room, and a study accessed through a concealed bookshelf door.
