Modern Temple-Like Wellness Sanctuaries

BE Has Completed Woods Retreat

BE_Design designs Woods Retreat — a 600-square-foot wellness sanctuary nestled within a wooded landscape in Springs, New York. This project reinterprets the traditional A-frame form as a small temple-like structure dedicated to meditation, kundalini yoga, and restorative sauna and ice-bathing rituals.

The Woods Retreat is designed for a teacher who hosts instruction. BE_Design's project boasts a minimal footprint that provides a deeply restorative environment that supports breathwork, stillness, and embodied practice, with its steep triangular form drawing the eye upward while anchoring the body to the earth. Two cantilevered niches extend outward from the structure, framing views of the surrounding forest and creating intimate pockets for meditation or rest. The building's loftiness allows the vibrations of gong ceremonies to reverberate more freely, enhancing the acoustic experience of sound-based practices.
