Woodland Wellness Retreats

The Sanctum is a Nature Therapy Retreat in Lithuania

The Sanctum is a nature therapy retreat designed by Arches in a woodland clearing near Bezdonys, Lithuania. The retreat combines guest accommodation with dedicated spaces for yoga, meditation, seminars, and communal dining, arranging cross-laminated timber buildings around existing trees to preserve the site's natural character. A birch-lined entrance leads to a central courtyard organized around a mature oak tree, while rows of steeply gabled cabins create an irregular roofline. Blackened timber and copper clad the exterior, allowing the materials to weather naturally within the forest setting.

The main building pairs a fully glazed canteen with a skylit multipurpose hall screened by a band of timber cladding to provide greater privacy. Timber colonnades surround the courtyard and building perimeter, forming covered walkways that connect the retreat while framing changing views of the surrounding landscape.

Forest-integrated Hospitality
Retreats that preserve mature trees and natural site features signal opportunities for biophilic lodging concepts that make conservation a core part of the guest experience.
Timber Wellness Architecture
Cross-laminated timber, blackened wood, and naturally aging copper create openings for low-impact wellness destinations that pair sustainable construction with sensory design.
Courtyard-based Retreats
Shared courtyards, covered walkways, and communal dining spaces reflect rising demand for restorative environments that balance privacy, social connection, and nature immersion.
