Culturally Inspired Stoneware

The Volcanic Rock Collection Explores Pre-Hispanic Mexican Culture

Launched by design brand Piamundo, the Volcanic Rock Collection includes various dishes of many sizes, all of which are carved from stone found in the Mexican state of Puebla. Each of the designs harkens back to traditional Mexican dishware, with Piamundo sourcing the Volcanic Rock Collection from various traditional craftspeople across the country. The result is a collection of utilitarian designs, inspired by pre-hispanic Mexican culture.

Items in the Volcanic Rock Collection include a shallow circular dish with a square handle, two larger bowls with angled profiles, a collection of vases, and a candle holder. Each of these pieces is defined by a rustic aesthetic but also feature elements that explore geometry, culture, and history in a manner that is both modern and minimalist.
