The Gosnells Vintage Mead 2018 was created to update the traditional spirit specifically for the "the modern palate." The modernized mead spirit is said to have a drier style, a lower ABV and a complex flavor provide with notes of blackcurrant and spice. This product is said to be completely different from other products by Gosnells, like its first vintage made from 100% London honey.
As Tom Gosnell puts it, “Mead has come a long way from the days of monks, sorcery and enchanted castles. US Mead makers are looking to the future, and not to the past, unhindered by our British monastic tradition of making it deep yellow, at high alcohol and outrageously sweet."
Thanks to the way mead is being updated for contemporary audiences, mead is becoming an alternative to wine in restaurants.
