Exposed Concrete Stealthy Homes

OFIS Aritekti Designs the Villa Eternal Way in Slovenia

Local design studio OFIS Arhitekti designs the unique entrance to Villa Eternal Way, which is a home located in Ljubljana. The imposed structure features a projecting portico that is made up of exposed concrete for a stealthy and modern aesthetic. The entrance also rests on an elevated platform which nods to the traditional Slovenian structures by the area. The purpose of raising the entrance is a response to the history of flooding. The home's facades are complete with black bricks which complement the exposed concrete.

The studio speaks to Dezeen, stating "The area was at risk of flooding until recently, when regulation systems were built. This led to the evolution of a building typology of houses with a raised ground floor. Basements were semi-underground and reduced flood damage. The access to the living ground floor developed into a unique architectural element, the portico. The entrance to the villa is designed as a ritual – its purpose is to make an imposing accent and covered way towards the entrance."
