Concrete-Supportive Bridged Homes

Stempel & Tesar Design the Villa Sidonius in Czech Republic

Stempel & Tesar completed the design of the Villa Sidonius located in the Czech Republic. The residence is designed by the local studio and described as a steel-framed box that is perched over a large concrete functioning like a bridge on a steeply sloped site. This area is surrounded by lush trees and the Villa Sidonius is a modern iteration of the various villas that once filled the area.

The co-founder of the studio, Jan Tesar shares the design notion with Dezeen, noting "The location is a beautiful residential neighbourhood with generous villas, some over a hundred years old. The new villa maintains a similar scale but was designed to be single-story, barrier-free, full of sunlight, and extensively glazed – a design seemingly at odds with the land's morphology. Ultimately, all requirements were met thanks to the concept of a bridge structure."
