Upstate natural dyes are an amazing dye kit from designer Kalen Kaminski. Kaminski is perhaps best known for her Upstate collection, all of which feature beautiful designs created using a natural Japanese dying technique known as shibori. Kaminski's kits include the same natural dye formula she uses and includes all the items needed to create some amazing designs. The six-step kits each include the dye formula, a silk hankie, protective gloves, string and a manual on shibori techniques.
The Upstate natural dye kits are currently available in three colors, each of which are inspired by scraps of produce and spices, with the exception of the indigo kit. The turmeric and rose kits both contain all natural ingredients with the turmeric containing turmeric and chamomile, and the rose containing hibiscus flowers and sandalwood. The indigo does use synthetic indigo simply because natural indigo is not water soluble and requires lye as an element for reduction.
