Kapsch TrafficCom has been awarded a $1.4 million contract to modernize the traffic management systems in Hawaii's critical Tetsuo Harano Tunnel and H3 Freeway. The upgrade focuses on enhancing the DYNAC-based Advanced Traffic Management Software, which integrates intelligent transportation systems and supervisory control and data acquisition technologies to improve operational monitoring and control capabilities.
The traffic management system project will be running from October 2024 through September 2025. Infrastructure enhancements will include hardware installations, software updates, and comprehensive operator training to ensure proper system maintenance and functionality.
The technological improvements could significantly benefit both transportation officials and daily commuters. For infrastructure managers, the upgraded system offers more sophisticated tools for monitoring traffic patterns, detecting incidents, and coordinating emergency responses within the tunnel environment.
