Tonkin Liu is the architecture studio behind the biomimetic tower in manchester, England. Located in the city's Civic Quarter Heat Network and Energy Centre, the tower boasts a sculptural wall made from organically-shaped tiles. Tonkin Liu completed the building with flues for a low-carbon energy center.
The tower provides low-carbon energy to a network of sites throughout the district. Dubbed the Tower of Light and the Wall of Energy, the building is 40 meters tall and funnels hot air away from a combined heat and power engine and two gas boilers through its flues. The architects on the project designed the tower to provide a visible expression of its environmental agenda. By nightfall, the Tower of Light is brightly illuminated.
