MU Architecture designs The Albatross

MU Architecture has designed The Albatross — a contemporary residence in La Conception, Quebec, nestled in the Laurentians region on the pristine shores of Lake Xavier. At the site, the firm composed a series of articulated forms that follow the steep topography. In doing so, the silhouette of the structure reduces visual impact and creates a quiet dialogue with the surrounding mountain landscape.

MU Architecture's approach draws inspiration from the albatross as an emblem of travel and freedom. Lightness is expressed through bold cantilevers that extend like wings in mid-flight, elevating the residence and framing a cinematic relationship with the lakeside horizon. White wood cladding, on the other hand, brings luminous clarity and amplifies the sense of weightlessness. The interior unfolds as a continuous spatial sequence, with the main level featuring an open living room opening to a sunrise-facing terrace, a dining room seating 12 , and a kitchen anchored by two irregularly shaped islands that serve as a social hub.
