Serene Desert Villa Interiors

The Al Mahra Residence is a Contemporary Expression of Place

Al Mahra Residence is a contemporary expression of place through an interior renovation that emphasizes material depth, spatial openness, and a strong connection to its surrounding landscape. Designed by interior architect Marie Claire Mrad, the project involved a full update of an existing villa originally inspired by traditional Arabic architecture, creating an interior architecture that responds to light, climate, and the rhythms of daily life in Dubai.

The ground floor was opened up by removing conventional partitions and extending living, dining, and bar spaces toward the terrace and garden beyond, with structural columns wrapped in brushed stainless steel to organize space without closed rooms. The villa’s palette centres on deep charcoal, steel gray, dark stone, and desaturated blue tones chosen for tactile richness and atmospheric calm. Custom finishes such as brushed steel, lava stone, and dark-stained wood define surfaces that age with character while maintaining visual cohesion. Large sliding glass panels allow the interior to expand outward, dissolving thresholds between inside and outside and supporting outdoor living characteristic of the regional lifestyle.
