Forested Residential Projects

EM Architecture Designed the Chalet Du Ruissea

The Chalet du ruisseau, conceived by the firm EM architecture, is a residential project situated on a forested property adjacent to a stream in Quebec's Eastern Townships. The design approach for this country home involved a reinterpretation of traditional local architectural forms — specifically gabled structures reminiscent of rural barns — through a modern architectural vocabulary.

The dwelling is composed of two primary volumes that are strategically positioned to follow the natural slope of the land and to minimize disruption to the existing mature trees. A central element within the layout consolidates utilitarian functions like stairs and storage, which in turn allows the perimeter walls to feature extensive glazing. This maximizes visual connectivity with the outdoors, a connection further enhanced by large stone terraces. EM architecture's material selection, on the other hand, references vernacular building techniques, while the interior is appointed with mid-century modern furnishings
