RobitailleCurtis' Laurentian Forest House is located in Wentworth-Nord, Quebec. This L-shaped residence is carefully built into a hillside on an eight-and-a-half-acre family property. The architects worked to preserve mature maple, spruce, birch, hemlock, and beech trees while maintaining expansive views toward Lac Notre-Dame and the surrounding mountains.
The property owners chose not to build at the site’s summit, where their children had camped for many summers. This decision protects long views and allows the building to nestle quietly into the terrain. A winding driveway rises gradually through the woods, leading to a parking court where the Laurentian Forest House reveals itself to the south, and a stone stair integrated with exposed weathered rock outcrop leads to an entry walk lined with birch trees and native ferns. The interior layout separates into a single-story living bar to the south containing an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area plus a screened dining porch, and a two-story sleeping bar extending west and north with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a private study, and a lower-level living area with mudroom entry.
