Modern Medical Teaching Pavilions

Anne Carrier Architectes Designs for Université Laval’s Program

Anne Carrier Architectes, in collaboration with Coarchitecture, has completed a modern medical teaching pavilion for the Université Laval medical faculty. Situated within the historic Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis complex, the educational building represents a contemporary architectural intervention designed to harmonize with a pre-existing heritage site while meeting the functional demands of modern medical training.

The teaching pavilion provides instructional space for 90 students. Inside, the building incorporates pecialized laboratories, clinical areas for patient interaction, and flexible teaching environments that facilitate interactive and collaborative pedagogical approaches. A central design feature of the project is a multi-story atrium intended to serve as a social and circulation hub that fosters informal interaction among students, faculty, and clinicians. The building's form and fenestration, on the other hand, are carefully calibrated to preserve views of the surrounding river, cityscape, and an adjacent historic garden.
