Tadao Ando Redesigns Nintendo's Former HQ into a Hotel

Tadao Ando redesigns the former Nintendo headquarters into a boutique hotel. The Japanese architect is set to open the Marufukuro Hotel located in Kyoto on April 1st. Initially, the building was occupied by Nintendo between 1933 and 1959. At that time, the company was called Yamauchi Nintendo.

Now, Tadao Ando has transformed the building into an 18-room hotel that includes a restaurant, spa, and gym. The architects on the project aimed to retain and incorporate many of the building's original 1930s details. Some retained features include decorative tiling and art-deco lighting fixtures. For the annex portion, the architects adopted a more modern approach and included floor-to-ceiling windows, raw concrete, and other modern stylings. In addition, guests can choose to stay in either the old or new parts of the building.
