NOT A HOTEL Unveils HERITAGE and vertex Brands in Japan

— December 16, 2025 — Art & Design
NOT A HOTEL unveils HERITAGE and vertex hotel brands as its first offerings designed for public hotel use rather than shared-ownership villas. The announcement outlines two distinct brand directions: HERITAGE by NOT A HOTEL, which reinterprets architectural heritage with contemporary sensibilities, and vertex by NOT A HOTEL, which focuses on future-oriented architecture, technology, and design. Prior to this launch, the company’s projects were primarily villas sold under a shared-ownership model.

The first HERITAGE by NOT A HOTEL project will renovate the former temple lodging at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tō-ji Temple (Kyōō Gokoku-ji) in Kyoto, transforming it into a hotel space that revisits historical context through modern spatial design. Revenue from the revitalized structure is planned to support restoration and preservation costs tied to the site’s architectural legacy.

The inaugural vertex by NOT A HOTEL project will be developed in Okinawa with design by Zaha Hadid Architects. It represents ZHA’s first hotel project in Japan and is positioned to integrate innovative architectural design with the region’s natural environment. Site planning emphasizes minimal environmental disturbance and views, with facilities distributed to preserve ocean panoramas and privacy.
