These monkeys are subjected to traumatic conditions: their teeth are pulled so they can't bite, tortured to remain obedient and hung from chains in order to be trained to walk on their hind legs like a human.
Fortunately, it seems like these horrible acts are on their way out as the governor of Jakarta has ordered that all street-performing monkeys be gone by next year.
