SleeveSense is a wearable sleeve from Senphonix designed to continuously stream multiple vital signs during hospital stays and after discharge. The device is intended for comfortable, long-term use over days, weeks or months and aims to reduce reliance on periodic manual spot checks.
The project received an NSF STTR Phase I award to support engineering work on the sleeve’s wireless and radio-frequency systems. Senphonix is working with the University of Arizona to refine antenna and power performance and move the patent-pending prototype toward scalable manufacturing. The funding builds on earlier support from the State of Arizona through the WearTech Applied Research Center.
By automating some vital-sign monitoring, SleeveSense could free nursing time, help clinicians identify patient deterioration earlier and provide a fuller picture after discharge. Senphonix expects clinical testing to begin in late 2026 or early 2027 and plans to pursue FDA clearance in early to mid-2027.
